JORDAN

He took me in when I had nowhere else to go.

He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn’t treat me like I’m nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe.

He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.

I have to stop this. It can’t happen.

My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable.

Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one.

I am.

PIKE

I took her in, because I thought I was helping.

She’d cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement.

As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.

The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she’s becoming a part of me.

But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.

And her boyfriend’s father.

Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.

*BIRTHDAY GIRL is a stand-alone, contemporary romance suitable for ages 18+.

excerpt

Pike and his son’s girlfriend are in the kitchen, chopping watermelon as a party rages by the pool outside.

PIKE

The remnants of the party run around the back yard, some kid catching a squealing girl who’s half-naked, and I drop my eyes again, feeling fucking stupid like this isn’t my house, and I’m some seventy-year-old pervert spying on teens gone wild running around my own damn yard.

I see Jordan glance through the window in front of us and then quickly to me, probably gauging my annoyance. There are topless women in my backyard, after all, and I freaked out over her wet T-shirt mowing the lawn the other day.

But instead, I resort to sarcasm this time. “Do you think Cramer next door is enjoying the view?”

She snorts, faltering in her chopping, and follows it with a laugh.

After a moment, though, I hear her taunting voice. “Are you?” she replies.

I widen my eyes a little, surprised, and look down at her. She casts me a cocky little smirk.

“You’re still young,” she points out, joking with me. “Still look energetic. Why don’t you go out more?”

Who says I don’t go out? My bar-hopping days are over, but I had friends over tonight, too. Granted that’s not ‘going out’, but I’m not a hermit.

“You’re not gay, are you?”

I shoot her a look. Excuse me? Didn’t we talk about my dating habits the other night?

But she shakes her head right away, clearing it. “Yeah, never mind. Didn’t think so.”

Jesus.

Granted, I don’t have as much of a social life as I could. I know that. I’m not even forty yet, and my downtime resembles my grandfather’s retirement.

I pause a moment, searching for the easiest words to explain it to her. “I like my boring life,” I tell her, my voice kind of sounding like an apology. “Most women don’t.”

“Maybe girls don’t,” she replies, a light humor in her voice that I appreciate. “I find you far from boring. You should go out more. There’s a shortage of men in this town. Too many boys.”

I smile to myself. She sees me as a man, not just someone’s father. I shouldn’t like that as much as I do.

And yes, there may be lots of boys, but there are also lots of women, and none of them are for me. Believe me, if my future wife lived in this town, I would’ve found her by now.

She slices one of her sections in half and turns it sideways to cut triangles in twos. I follow suit.

Outside, a young woman with a long brown ponytail scurries across the pool deck, her orange bikini making her tanned skin look darker.

I jerk my chin. “Should I go after her?”

Jordan glances up at the girl outside the window and drops her eyes again, continuing to slice the fruit. “She’s too hot for you.”

“You think I can’t keep up?” I joke, cutting off two more triangles. “I’ve been around the block, you know?”

“Several times by your age, I’m sure. Need a nap yet?”

Why, you little—

I slice through the fruit, and the knife comes down, its point jabbing me right on the inside of my middle finger on my left hand.

“Shit!” I drop the knife and bring my hand up, the ache sinking down to the bone. I suck in air through my teeth. Dammit.

“Oh,” Jordan gasps and drops her knife, too, wiping off her hands. “I’m sorry.” She offers a regretful little laugh. “Here, come here.”

I suck the blood off my finger, barely taking notice that she’s pushed me down onto a bar stool at the island as she retrieves bandages from the cabinet.

Did I put those there? I didn’t put those there.

Rushing over to me, she peels a package open, and I see it’s a wet wipe, probably “anti-bacterial” something or other.

“I can do it.” I hold out my hand.

But she moves in anyway, inspecting the pea-size drop of blood balling on my finger again. “I know,” she says, “I just feel bad. I didn’t mean to piss you off and distract you. I was just teasing.”

I hiss as whatever’s on the wipe hits my open wound. “You didn’t piss me off,” I tell her, but it comes out as a growl. “Well, you did, I guess. You always do, but it’s in a good way.”

“In a good way?” Her brows furrow.

Yeah, like, you know, fun. You’re fun. And kind of funny. And pretty interesting. I don’t know how she makes my temper rise so quickly, and over stupid, petty shit, and I can’t explain why, but I like it.

I don’t know how to tell her that, though. It sounds weird.

When I don’t answer the question, she continues, her voice quiet and serious. “You know,” she says, not looking at me. “If you are interested in her, I can bring her around more. If you want.”

The girl in the orange bikini?

“Bring her around?”

She nods, wiping my finger still. “A sleepover or something maybe? You won’t have to make a move. She’ll jump you.”

She won’t look at me, but I stare down at her nevertheless. She wants to get me laid?

I feel a warm, light sweat cover my spine as I become aware of the heat of her body standing between my legs. I watch as she blows hair out of her face only for it to fall back into the same spot again.

Orange Bikini isn’t the one I want jumping me.

Absently, I reach up and brush the hair out of her eye, grazing her forehead as I tuck it behind her ear for her. Her gaze rises, meeting mine as I let my hand fall down the strands of her smooth hair, and my heart skips a beat as we both stand there, locked.

I can almost feel her face in my hands. The urge is so strong to know what it’s like to hold just a part of her.

Jesus Christ. I drop my hand, looking down at the small wound on my middle finger.

“So do you want me to?” she broaches quietly, almost like she’s afraid of what I’m about to say.

I shake my head. “No,” I finally tell her. “She’s not bad, but she’s not what I like.”

She unwraps a Band-Aid and fastens it to my finger, slowing smoothening over the bandage again and again.

My fingers tingle where she holds them, and I watch her face, her focus still not leaving my hand.

And then suddenly, she nearly whispers, “Well, what do you like?”

I watch as she licks her lips, her breathing shallow, and there’s a jolt to my cock, making me feel damn near ready to tear something apart with my teeth.

What is she doing to me?

My relationship with Hunter Delucia started backwards.

We met at a wedding—him sitting on the groom’s side, me sitting on the bride’s.  Stealing glances at each other throughout the night, there was no denying an intense, mutual attraction.

I caught the bouquet; he caught the garter.  Hunter held me tightly while we danced and suggested we explore the chemistry sparking between us.  His blunt, dirty mouth should’ve turned me off.  But for some crazy reason, it had the opposite effect on me.

We ended up back in my hotel room.  The next morning, I headed home to New York leaving him behind in California with the wrong number.

I thought about him often, but after my last relationship, I’d sworn off of charming, cocky, gorgeous-as-sin men. A year later, Hunter and I met again at the birth of our friends’ baby.  Our attraction hadn’t dulled one bit.  After a whirlwind trip, he demanded a real phone number this time.  So I left him with my mother’s—she could scare away any man with her talks of babies and marriage—and flew back home.

I’d thought it was funny, until the following week when he rang the bell at Mom’s house for Sunday night dinner.  The crazy, gorgeous man had won over my mother and taken an eight-week assignment in my city.  He proposed we spend that time screwing each other out of our systems.

Eight weeks of mind-blowing sex with no strings attached? What did I have to lose?

Nothing, I thought.

It’s just sex, not love.

But you know what they say about the best laid plans…

blurb

She’s everywhere.

Ex-wife.

Love of his life.

The last person in the world he wanted to see…ever.

And now that he’s working beside her every day, he can’t escape her. Her scent, glimpses of her smile, even the tension in the air that makes his body hum with the kind of need he’d only experienced with one person-all of it is driving him over the edge.

Brant Wellington was certain of three things:

Alcohol wasn’t going to solve this.

He really was losing his F-ing mind.

And his gorgeous ex-wife was going to be the death of him.

excerpt

It was Brant.

Always Brant.

Maybe that was because they’d never had any real closure. Just fighting, yelling, and then silence.

God, she’d hated the silence so much more than the yelling.

The silence crackled with tension—it was always filled with more meaning than when words were actually spoken.

It wasn’t the yelling that had killed their relationship.

It was the silence that had followed. When he had every opportunity to fix it—and didn’t.

Why was it so hard to move on? Probably because she hadn’t tried.

Instead, she’d worked. Tried to stay positive. And hoped.

Damn hope. Stupid hope.

“He’s not coming back for me,” she whispered, knowing that if she finally admitted he wasn’t coming, she would have to take her part of the blame in why. Because it wasn’t just on him to come running back. A small part of her knew that it was her job to meet him halfway. Instead, she’d ignored the need in his eyes, the desperate plea in his voice, and allowed grief to swallow her whole. Because at the time she’d needed someone to blame, and it was easier blaming him than herself.

review

When I first read the blurb and discovered this would be a second chance romance book, I expected it to be packed with punches of emotion. I didn’t expect it to be so real, raw, and heart breaking. It truly brings out every emotion, and is such a lovely tale that shows that true love never fades away.

Brant has been on the road of self destruction, in the form of endless booze and women, sine his divorce. He is broken, filled with guilt and anger over what happened between him and his ex wife, Nikki. He made me both want to slap and hug him.

Nikki is also dealing with a lot of pain. She really breaks your heart at times. Since the divorce, Nikki has been filling her days with work- working as a masseuse at a resort. She finds her own little “family” there, and their love and friendship helps numb the pain a little.

Suddenly Brant finds himself working with Nikki. The two are obviously still attracted to each other, and still love each other, underneath the pain. They have a chemistry that can’t be denied.

The book also shows glimpse of the past, showing Brant and Nikki so deeply in love and happy, and gradually losing that along the way due to circumstances. (I don’t want to spoil it by saying too much).

During the emotional roller coaster that Brant and Nikki take you on, there are also moments of joy, humor, flirty banter and oh so sexy scenes. This is one of those books that is equally heart warming and heart breaking.

As I mentioned, it is number 3 in the series, and while you absoultly do not have to read the previous two (The Bachelor Auction and The Playboy Bachelor), I would recommend it! Those books feature Brant’s brothers, and you do meet Brant in them.

If you love angsty, emotional and steamy books, with a happy ending, you have to check out The Bachelor Contract!

blurb

One handywoman.
One single dad.
One set of twins.

And the wall isn’t the only thing being drilled…
I learned the hard way that being a handywoman isn’t easy. The questions, the stares—the assumption I’m the proud owner of a cock and balls. Not that it matters. I’ve proven over and over that I’m ready for anything the judgmental asses throw at me.
Except the hot, single dad of twins who just moved to town.

Brantley Cooper gets the shock of his life when I show up on his doorstep to fix up his kids’ new rooms. His son is confused why ‘the pretty lady has a drill,’ and his daughter has a new obsession—me.

On paper, my job is easy. Go in, do their bedrooms, and leave.
In theory, I’m spending eight hours a day with a guarded, sexy as hell guy, and I’m staying for dinner more often than I’m eating it alone, on my couch, with Friends re-runs.

I shouldn’t be staying for dinner. I shouldn’t be helping him out with the twins. I shouldn’t be falling in love with tiny toes and dimpled cheeks.
And I most definitely should not be kissing my client.

Oops…

excerpt

“Deal with it,” I echoed, my mouth dry. “What exactly do you mean by that?”
He glanced at my mouth.
“Okay, but, um, here’s the thing.” I couldn’t breathe. I sounded like a panting idiot trying to get the words out between each short, sharp breath I took. “This,” I motioned between us, “is bad.”
“Bad.” His lips tugged to the side.
“Yes. Because,”—help. Someone help—“because this isn’t allowed. Company rules. No cavorting with clients.”
“No cavorting with clients.” That half-smile turned into a full-blown grin. “That’s very…proper.”
“Well, I can’t exactly put, “No sleeping with the clients” now, can I?”
“You could have, but it would have been unfortunately precise.”
“I should change that.”
“I disagree.”
I licked my lips. “You should agree. Because this is—”
“Bad. You said.” More lip twitching.
“I thought you were sorry you made it awkward by kissing me.”
“That was before I found out you were attracted to me. Now, I’m a lot less sorry I kissed you.”
Oh. Well. Fair enough.
“Should I take back my acceptance of your apology?” I asked.
“You should stop talking and see how you feel when I’ve kissed you again.”

blurb

At Twin Oaks Country Club, there are the fortunate ones, and then there are the rest of us: the waiters, the caddies, the valets, and in my case, the cabana girls. Most days, I’m poolside in a pleated skirt, dishing out margaritas to tycoons and titans. It’s not exactly my dream job, but it does come with one perk…

James Ashwood.

He’s my silver lining in a custom black suit.

Besides being a legacy member at the club, he’s a tech mogul and Austin’s most eligible bachelor. Oh, and those dimples? Yeah, they make my stomach dip too.

On good days, I catch his sleek Porsche winding down the tree-lined drive. On better days, I steal a glimpse of his handsome profile as we pass in the hall. And on the absolute best day, I find him alone at the bar, looking for company.

“Come have a seat.”

Those four little words set me down a path I never could have imagined. Private planes, penthouse suites, and temptations around every corner make it impossible to keep my distance. His world feels decadent and wild—but overindulgence comes with a cost. Every kiss comes with strings. Every erotic encounter is a promise I’m not ready to keep.

When I pump the brakes, he hits the gas. James doesn’t want to go slow—he wants a commitment.

And the thing about the fortunate ones?

They’re used to getting what they want.

excerpt

“I missed you today,” he says, his heated gaze lingering on my body.

I step back, and he follows.

He looks like he’s cornering his prey.

“Apparently not enough to make it to dinner,” I point out icily.

“I called the restaurant and told them I’d be late. Didn’t they tell you?”

I cross my arms and glance away.

“Brooke.” He steps closer and gently lifts my chin, forcing me to look back at him. “Fight with me tomorrow.”

I narrow my eyes, angry with him for shelving this discussion so casually. To him, it doesn’t matter that I sat in that restaurant alone, looking like a fool for nearly two hours. He’s brushing off my anger, stepping closer and forcing his way past my defenses.

“I think I’d like to talk about it now.”

I catch the beginning of a smirk just before he leans in to kiss my cheek.

“Are you sure there isn’t anything you’d rather be doing right now?”

He uncrosses my arms and brings them up over his shoulders then steps closer, towering over me. My arms tighten around his neck, but still, I turn away, keeping my mouth from him. His breath hits my neck and he pulls me taut against his hard body, growing more impatient with every moment I try to resist.

“Brooke,” he whispers huskily.

My eyes flutter closed as he bends and presses a kiss to my cheek, my chin, then lower, tipping my head back so he can reach the smooth recess at the nape of my neck. I shiver and he groans, obviously aware of what his touch is doing to me.

review

R.S. Grey is one of those authors that deliver every single time. No matter how much I build it up in my head- which I always do- she somehow manages to make it better than anything I was expecting. THE FORTUNATE ONES was no different. Sexy, witty, romantic, angsty and full of charm, this may be my favorite one yet! One heck of an emotional roller-coaster!

Brooke Davenport spends her days working as a cabana girl at the luxurious country club. It’s not her dream job, but at least it’s income while she tries to find a job as an au pair.  There she meets James Ashwood- sexy, charming, confident, and pretty irresistible. There is this instant attraction and connection between the two of them, even though they are opposites in a lot of ways. The more time they spend together, the fire between them gets stronger and stronger and it starts to feel like the real thing.

Only thing is, James is 11 years older than her. He is successful, experienced and is ready to settle down. Brooke likes the idea of HEA, but she isn’t there yet. There is so much she wants to do, so many places she wants to travel. And while she wants James, there are other things she wants in life too. This is the perfect example of “is love enough?’.

First of all, I loved Brooke. She was strong willed and independent. A hard worker and a dreamer. She wasn’t about finding her true love, she was about making her dreams come true.

James was cocky, intelligent and unexpectedly romantic and sensitive. He knows what he wants, and what he wants is Brooke.

Their romance is addictive. It’s a bit of a slow burn, filled with sexual tension, heart felt moments, swoony gestures and steamy encounters. It’s heart breaking and raw at times. It felt so damn realistic.

I loved how R.S. Grey approached this conflict of them being at different points in their lives. It couldn’t been so predictable, but she allowed Brooke to live her dreams and grow as a person. Don’t get me wrong, my heart was aching at their time away from each other, but wow, I loved how it changed Brooke. It made their HEA even more amazing.

You have to read this book!! You will not be sorry! Just be ready for a heck of a ride!

I’m Ivy Clarke. Bartender, best friend, and disbeliever in love.
And now I’m in over my head, trying to flip a house all by myself.
Thanks, HGTV.

I’m not too proud to admit I need some help. Too bad the only one who can help me is the same man I want to throw out this house’s second-story window.
Jackson Gamble and I can’t be in the same room together for more than a minute without devolving into a sparring match.

Except for that one time…
But enough about that. Jackson’s looking for forever, and I don’t believe in love, remember?

Get in. Renovate. Get out. Keep my heart firmly in tact.
Because it’s much easier to fix up a house than a broken heart.

Full of humor and dripping with delicious tension, Nailed It proves that every heart can be ready for a little rehabilitation, if only you’re willing to open it up.

excerpt

Jackson took a step toward me, closing the space I’d put between us. He swept the hair off my face and trailed his finger down and across my jaw. “I thought we took care of that thinking problem the other night.”

“Jackson.” Man, he was making it so hard to hold onto anything resembling resolve.

He leaned closer, his lips a mere breath away. “Ivy.”

My heart thumped harder and harder in my chest. Am I really going to do this? Say something that might stop our sexytimes fun in its tracks before I get my fill?

Yes, damn it, it looks like I am. I really should’ve come up with a more solid plan so I’d know exactly what to say.

“While the other night was fun, I know that you’re looking for something”—my throat tightened, and I had to force the words out—“more long term.”

“You’ve obviously been talking to my meddling family—my money is on Savannah.”

I shrugged. “It doesn’t make it less true, does it?”

“I told you the other night that I knew we were only having fun, and I meant it.”

“But you’re dating someone.” Guilt flooded me as I said it. I’d been so focused on how upset Savannah would be that I’d managed to forget that I had even more to feel guilty for.

“I’ve been on a few dates recently, yes, but I’m not in a committed relationship, or I never would’ve carried you to bed. You really think I’d do that?”

Now that I thought about it, no, but I still wondered if Caroline thought they were more serious. His family certainly hoped it would go in that direction. “I don’t want to get in the way.”

Jackson’s intense gaze bored into me, making my heart skip a few beats altogether. “You’ve been in the way since the moment I walked through the door of this house—hell, maybe even since the engagement party. I tried wanting what’s good for me, but wanting you is stronger.”

Every ounce of air whooshed out of my lungs at once. “Then maybe we need to rethink our business arrangement. I can hire someone else to help me fin—”

“No.”

There was the familiar irritation, leaking in and spiking my blood pressure. I tossed the roller down in the vicinity of the tray. “Okay, let’s at least talk about it, because if—”

“No. We made a deal, and I plan on seeing it through. I’m also a grown man, and I’m perfectly capable of making my own decisions. I understand that this thing between us is temporary, and I don’t care.” He hauled me to him, his arm coming around my waist to secure me against him. “I’m not quite done having my way with you yet.”

He crashed his mouth down on mine, and all my pent-up energy surged forward at once, common sense taking the backseat as lust took the wheel. I parted my lips, diving headlong into the kiss. I ran my hands up his firm arms, not realizing my left hand was still wet with paint from catching myself until I’d dragged it most the way up.

Jackson glanced at the smear of blue covering his biceps and the sleeve of his T-shirt, arched an eyebrow, and then backed me up against the wet wall, his hips bumping into mine.

I moaned as he ground against me. He felt so good I didn’t even care about the paint or the fact that I’d need to redo the wall. I just wanted more of him on more of me.

review

Oh Jackson Gamble, you have stolen my heart!

This is the story of Ivy and Jackson, two people who can’t stand to be around each other, yet find themselves flipping a house together. Which means working together. Relying on each other. Spending a lot of time together. But that doesn’t mean anything will happen between them.

Again.

Yep, Ivy and Jackson have a bit of a complicated past. They had a week long fling followed by a break up (is it a break up if it’s just a fling?) initiated by Ivy. However, the two can’t completely cut each other out of the picture, since Jackson’s sister is Ivy’s best friend. Maybe that is why that rule about staying away from your friend’s brother is around.

But Ivy needs help, and Jackson is really good with his hands. Doing repairs, of course. 😉 So what if he’s gorgeous, a great kisser, and charming. She won’t fall for him. No way, no how.

Let me start with Jackson, since he is the best thing about this book. He was one of those perfect male characters, with just enough flaws to make him perfect. If that makes sense? He was flirty, caring and soo swoony. He had a big heart, and wore his heart on his sleeve at times, which was refreshing.

Ivy was a little hard to connect with at times. I know she had her issues with relationships and love, but the fact that it took her so long to let Jackson in was a little annoying. I kept wanting to scream at her “Just kiss him!” “Just be with him!”

The two of them were awfully cute together there. The balanced each other out, and truly worked well together. They had a lot of witty lines and fun banter going on, and a few delicious moments of sexual tension.

The book was well-written. It was romantic, fun and heart warming. And while it was pretty predictable, I still enjoyed it.

If you like hate to love, and second chance (ish) romances, this is for you!

I swallowed heavily, my mouth going dry as I took in the masculine beauty of his practically naked body. He was…divine. That was the word that immediately came to mind. Divine.

Angelic. Godly.

My gaze soaked in his strong, broad shoulders, the tight, lean muscles of his chest, the taut ripples of his stomach. As if my eyes were drawn to him like a magnet, they moved down his chest to his muscled thighs, his well-formed calves and then back up to his boxers, where the outline of his male anatomy was just barely visible against the thin material.
My core clenched, wetness pooling between my thighs. I blinked, completely unaccustomed to this kind of reaction when it came to a man’s body. I wanted to simultaneously run away and step toward him, to reach out and trail a finger down his chest the way I’d just run a finger over the tiny stone bird.
“My father made that.”
“W-what?” God, my voice sounded too breathy, too stunned.
“The sparrow.”
He crossed his arms over his chest, obviously self-conscious about his state of undress. He gave a quick nod downward. “Sorry, I didn’t know you’d be up.”
Again, my eyes moved to his bare chest. There was a sparse trail of hair under his belly button leading into the waistband of his boxers. My eyes leapt back up to his, and I practically gulped, sure he had heard it when his eyebrows twitched slightly.
I turned my head, my heart beating so loudly in my own ears I was sure he could hear that, too, even from where he stood.

“It’s only fair, I suppose,” I murmured.
“What’s that?”
“Now we’ve both seen each other half-naked.”
Gabriel tilted his head, assessing me in some mysterious way. He suddenly turned and walked back toward his room. I stood rooted to the spot, confused, when he returned just as quickly as he’d left, pulling a T-shirt over his head. He walked toward me, coming to stand directly in front of where I stood. His expression was slightly shy, slightly teasing.

“I hope…that if we see each other naked again, it won’t be a job, or an accident. It will be because we both want it, and because it means something.”
What?

Visions swirled through my mind, unbidden: tangled limbs and twisted sheets. Heat filled my veins, blood pumping between my legs. It was too much. It was…out of my control and it scared me. I didn’t want to think of Gabriel that way, couldn’t think of Gabriel that way. In truth, had never thought of any man that way.

“Mean something?” My voice was a mere whisper.
He nodded, his expression going serious, his eyes filled with sudden gravity. His hand slowly moved up to my hair, and he brushed a piece back from my face. His hand lingered, his knuckle brushing gently down my cheekbone. My breath hitched at the subtle touch. His full lips parted slightly, those angel eyes moving over my features as if he was memorizing me, memorizing the moment. I was spellbound, caught once again in his gaze. No one had ever looked at me the way Gabriel was right then, not in all my life.
“Yes.”

It was all he said, leaving me to try to comprehend his meaning. But of course getting naked always meant something. A bribe, a paycheck, a coercion, a means to an end…only I knew very well Gabriel didn’t mean any of those things, and it was impossible to convince myself he could. I already knew better. And I didn’t want to think about what getting naked would mean to Gabriel because the very idea filled me with terror and an aching, needy want.
But mostly terror.

review

Okay, this is really hard because I want to say SO much about this book, yet at the same time, I feel this is a book you should experience first hand. So, I’m going to be a bit vague, but trust me, it’s for your benefit! This book was hauntingly beautiful, and an emotional roller coaster that took me through nearly every feeling one can feel.

Gabriel had a rough childhood, (Huge understatement!) yet he doesn’t let his past define him. He’s strong, swoony, and has this vulnerable soft side to him that is just completely endearing. Of course, he does have invisible scars and moments that haunt him.

Crystal also has a complicated past. And well, her life is still kinda complicated. Her story makes you realize things are not always black and white, and sometimes you’d never know what you would do, until you’re in that situation.

The two of them have this brilliant connection. It’s pure, it’s realistic, it’s raw at times, and it’s incredibly sexy. It’s not always easy between the two of them, nor is it simple. Their relationship is like the 4th of July; hot, intense, and full of fireworks. It’s a struggle, and even though they aren’t real, you just feel SO darn happy for them when everything starts to work out. That’s a huge compliment for Mia Sheridan’s writing.

I also have to say that as amazing as their relationship is, I also sincerely enjoyed witenessing the transformation of Gabriel and Crystal. To look back at the end, and see how far they come, it’s enough to almost make you tear up. And okay, maybe I did. 😛

All in all, this was an amazing read, one you HAVE to add to your TBR list. It’s truly a beautifully written book that will stay with you long after you finish.

blurb

I’m used to being in charge. In and out of the office.

So, when my parents go behind my back and hire a co-CEO to help me manage my family’s business, let’s just say, I don’t take it too well.

Especially not when the woman they’ve hired is the one girl who hated my guts in college. She thinks I’m an overprivileged, womanizing man-whore. I think she’s an uptight, stuck-up bitch.

And, now, she’s here, in my office, telling me how to run my company.

I don’t think so.

It doesn’t matter that she has legs that go on for days or that I keep imagining bending her over my desk and showing her just how bossy I can be.

I’ve worked my ass off and paid my dues to get to where I am, and she’s not taking it from me.

No freaking way.

Morgan Stickford is about to learn the hard way that Wilder Cross is the only boss around here.

blurb

Win the game. Lose your heart.

Everyone knows who I am and that I could have any female fan I want. That’s supposed to be the “perk” of playing left field for the Boston Renegades. But I don’t want just any woman; I want her.

She should be just another face in the crowd, but I can’t stop thinking about the one night we spent together-and her look of regret the morning after.

Because Saylor Blackwell is the kind of woman who haunts a man. Smart, sexy as hell, and one of the best managers in the business. She’s every ballplayer’s dream woman. And I’d do anything to make things right with her.

I’m done sitting on the bench when it comes to Saylor Blackwell. Time to swing for the fences.

excerpt

Whenever I wake up with a hangover, I often ask myself why I drank so much and promise that I’ll never do it again. That promise is something I’ve been breaking for the past few days, and up until now, I didn’t care.

I had hoped the booze would muddy my memory of last night, but it hasn’t. Every word she said, every expression she had, every punch to my chest to get me out of her apartment is crystal clear. I fucked up, and I don’t even know how. All I know is that the sobs I heard on the other side of Saylor’s door last night were enough to sober my stupid ass up.

For hours, I sat against her door, until a resident suggested I leave or they were going to call the police. If I hadn’t been arrested ear- lier, I probably would have encouraged them to dial Boston’s Finest. Another man might understand my plight. The woman that I want to be with kicked me out of her house, and while I probably deserved it, I didn’t want to leave until she stopped crying. I didn’t want to be the one to walk away in her time of need.

But as egos go—and believe me, mine is huge—I couldn’t let it get in the way any longer, so I walked my drunk ass back home with my tail between my legs, only to stay up all night while the booze wore off, knowing that I had to live with whatever I’d done to Saylor.

She’s the last person in the world who I want to hurt, and she’s the one person who can save me. Not only from a life behind bars, but from myself. When I’m with her, I’m a different person. The cocky son of a bitch whom everyone is used to doesn’t exist when she’s near me, and frankly, that is the man I like, or at least I used to. It’s easier being a fucking douche. It’s second nature to me and comes with the territory of being named one of the city’s most eligible bachelors.

Except when I’m with Saylor, I can be the man who hides in the shadow of that Travis Kidd. I can be the kind of man who doesn’t have to have a one-liner available or wink in order to get a phone number. When I’m with her, life outside of baseball starts to have a meaning, a fucking purpose.
