Fan the Flames by Michele Dunaway

Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5

Release Date: August 18th, 2015

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

Two years after Scarlet loses her husband Todd in a Navy SEAL mission, she packs up and moves back to her hometown, with her four year old daughter. There she is reunited with Brad, her late husband’s best friend, and the boy she shared an amazing kiss with while in high school. Brad had promised Todd he would take care of Scarlet and Colleen if something should happen to him, and so has them stay in the house he is fixing up. Brad has been in love with Scarlet since forever, and seeing Brad causes Scarlet to remember that hot kiss they shared.

They start becoming closer as time goes on, Brad even forms a sweet relationship with Colleen, and though they insist they are just friends, there is a lot of sexual tension between Brad and Scarlet. Which is soon followed by stolen kisses, and the feeling of wanting more.

This is my second book by Michele Dunaway, and Fan the Flames is the 3rd book in her Man of the Month series. Unfortunately, I wasn’t completely wowed by this one- it was completely predictable and nothing stood out to make this book different from the other ones with the same plot line. Don’t get me wrong, it was well-written, romantic, and touching; it just fell a little short for me.

It was a really fast read, and felt a bit rushed along at times. The chemistry between Scarlet and Brad was nice, though there was more build up than anything else. It was an okay book, though one I wouldn’t re-read.
